A rung what you brung type of event, held in a national park. Organized by thr MG Club of Brisbane. There was a wild selection of rides, from bone stock Toyota Corollas all the way up to Rotary powered formula 1 chassis!!!! 1. Archerfield Drift. Held by Dylan Anderson at Nizzpro in Gold Coast, Archerfield drift is a run what you brung type drift event every Thursday night for about $60! Reminds me of my precious Capital Drift.

2. Munch Inn (Munchies) Friday night cruise meet. A massive collection of Aussie muscle, filling entirely a parking lot circumferencing an entire shopping plaza with highly modified cars. Great way to drop and jaw and fill it up with a burger.

3. MG Club of Brisbane ‘Club Sprints’. Part 2 of a 3 part event held by the club, this event was out at the Holden Driving Training center! There was some ultra-high-end race cars out to run the course at full attack.

4. Also hosted by the MG club, part 3 was an exciting one!! A hill climb at Mt.Cotton. Shaped like a heart, the track was full of love for racing!

Here’s a quick video recap. I haven’t had a computer, and my camera is my cell phone, so this is the best quality I could muster up. I’m very sorry, but Robbie and I have been working together to improve the Quality. This video only shows a little bit of two of the 4 events!

I must say thank you to Robbie and Jane, as well as Noel and Juliette. Both couples have taken me into their homes and lives to help me jump right into my car obsession down here in Australia. It hasn’t even been a week yet and things are flying along!!!! Thanks also to Chris and Michelle out at the Holden Driving Center for allowing me to borrow some photos when my camera died. I have to say that I’ve only been successful in all my outings due to a tiny little website, obscured in the corner of the fuzzy vast interweb. Sewn by spiders of mystery the internet led me to Dorikaze and Dorikaze has led me to awesome things. Corollas, I love them more than most people love their livers. Be honest there, that alcohol sponge somewhere in your middle doesn’t get as much admiration as the little family cars I cherish dearly. Dorikaze loves them too. Enough to group together and argue about them online. Document little photos of small improvements, boring to everyone except a micro percentage of enthusiasts dusted across Canada. DK has always been my spring board of curiosities, they nay not be by my side at every moment as I break social rules and records no one is paying attention to; however they seem to support it, without question, anytime the topic comes up. Money where their mouths are, they show support both emotional and otherwise.

By the time my tires rolled off the ferry in that smokin’ joe camel of a tercel my Corolla count for victoria was already 2. A little yellow wagon and a robins egg blue ae86 were waiting for me. Along with those was a steep driveway and a couch to sleep on. DK long ago led me to a local. Back in Kitchener, I was an eager beaver with Corollas on the brain, and wanted to just chat to some of the members in person. There was only one other member in town at the time. Thanks to a DK drift carting event, we got to meet up. James and I took the long trip to Toronto to bash some karts. James has always been the biggest supporter of my wild adventures. A poor philanthropist. Hes always done whatever he could to make things happen. Without him, I’d probably be missing those toes we mentioned earlier, or atleast down to only 10 fingers.

Two Corollas awaited, a yellow wagon was picked for it’s clean title and fresh cali-shell. The ae86 shed it’s skin, and donated it’s organs to the wagon. Bam, hit the ground running in Vancouver Island. From here, through DK I met everyone I needed to meet to have a good, successful time.

More Corollas followed, and through all the mountain climbing, both with my feet and penis covered automobiles, fun was had interacting with cars. Instantly I became associated with the local Drifting Organization, Capital Drift. A few DKer’s in there as well, it became my west coast family. Cap D just seemed to be a holiday on top of my holiday. Organizing events, and teaching drifting became a monthly, sometimes bi-sexually-monthly excuse to beat the shit out of cars and make good friends. Both statements, being true, but also very true.

Cap D led me to meeting some of the greatest people. Where I left behind my loving and adoring Yes Guy Ontario friends, Cap D’s stepped up to help out. Slowly my little yellow tin brick was assembled, not without trouble, from other refuse and garbage, all DK provided parts, and Cap D wrenching. From my days of couch wake boarding, to living in a forest, to living in a furnace room. Both DK and Cap D assembled my car.

During this short 3 year span, I managed to have a trailer home, run a small business, own some corollas, cut some cars into trucks, do some streeting, ride some flatland, teach racing, import my own car from japan, get back into flatland, wash some cars, own some more corollas, help others build their cars, get people discounts on parts, own some more corollas, drink a lot of ice tea, finally learn some independence, own some more corollas, learn to ride motorcycles, learn to tango, climb some mountains, play bike polo,fall in love with a lovely girl, own some more corollas and drink more ice tea. I made a lot of good friends. Friends who took care of me at my weakest moments, and I just want to say thank you.

The sum of the story, the TLDR is that Epic breeds Epic. Do something wild and challenging, you may not succeed, but a good story is all you were going to get from it either way.

I have to keep reminding myself this is for shear enjoyment. To those who keep asking? I know it’s impossible. I know my goal is practically pointless to pick, yet here we go, days away, spending a year challenging myself. I had much more to say here, but having a lot of trouble expressing myself lately.

Three years ago I acquired a wagon, pre-sold on my behalf by friends of the province I was leaving for my arrival in a new side of the country. This $50 wagon began it’s life on epic terms, with a certain doom of epic-ness. Over the next three years the car would evolve using literally scrap junk people rejected as unusable condition goods. No matter the situation the car stood in the way of it’s own progress, a struggle and fight to assemble and make function. It’s very first outing on the track, it’s maiden voyage resulted in the 2 wheel drift footage. It’s been bumped and jumped, spun and grumped, on fire with desire, down and out and up and down again. It’s still alive, 3 years of things and stuff happening.

What did you do with your time in Victoria Quinn? Specifically I had fun interacting. Doing my best to make the few times I crawl out of my dark corner cave enjoyable for everyone. Wrenched, helped people learn to drift, got people discounts on parts, and most of all hauled away those unneeded parts clogging their worlds. Positive interaction is always the goal, do something different and have fun challenging those automatic thoughts: What if’s no longer. My answer, I spent 3 years talking to people, accidentally I built a race car and when I was leaving, I raffled it off. One line, summed up.

Thank you dearly to all who joined in on the raffle. It was surprising to see such volumes of support! It’s great!

I’ve become exceedingly nervous about the whole ordeal. Insane waves of emotion, one moment I’m capped with rage and anger towards myself for starting such an un-achievable project, and the next I’m compelled with impatience for it to begin. I do want it to start soon, and each day I grow closer to doing the dumbest thing I’ve ever attempted.

The v8/turbo debate rages on in my head. It’s becoming ever so increasingly important to be able to match Brocks speeds on the straights. Having fiddled around in various video games on Panorama, it’s become more and more obvious that the straight aways save the most time. Winding the mountain section is the most fun and spectacular of the drive, but means very little to the final time.

Little tricks and ideas keep creeping into my brain of how to make the car handle better, but my lack of knowledge in motor building specifically, leaves me with a fuzzy area: Cheap power. It’s an oxymoron as far as I know, and yet I will have to challenge this.

Luckily my ducks are slowly being organized and I may already have a garage when I land. Bonus, a few parts are even waiting for me. The biggest issue of employment still remains. I’ll need a job with some sort of kick, a benefit of some sort that will help towards the build. Money is the simple answer, but I’m not a fan of it, even just some sort of good resource, obscure as it maybe to give the project a bit of an edge.

Welding will be essential to the whole build. I love avoiding it in my normal builds, but this one seems that it’ll be quite crucial to sculpting the proper final results. Braking will be of the ut-most importance, straight line racing is the most expensive, as it always relies on machine more so than driving skill. It will still be difficult driving task, scary for the most part, but skill will lie in the assembly and acquisition of speedy bits.
